Abstract

Aim. To clarify the sources and possibilities for the development of the competence-based approach in the context of topological representations. Until now, the use of topological concepts in education is metaphorical in nature and does not rely on a developed scientific theory.

Methodology. The experience of the development of topological representations in relation to various spheres of social and humanitarian knowledge is analyzed.

Results. The main result of the article is the application of some basic principles of the topological approach to solving the issue of reducing the number of competencies and constructing a single “competence space”.

Research implications. The article can be useful for developers of new educational standards and programs, as well as for a discussion about the possibilities of using mathematical (topological) methods in research in the field of education.
