The interactive game debate: past and present

Abstract

The article describes the origin and spread of
the interactive game Debate. It is well-known that Rhetoric,
one of the forms of which is a debate, has been one of
the compulsory humanitarian disciplines at medieval European
universities. The author shows the way debates were
transforming from a kind of entertainment into the means of
developing verbal communication skills which are essential
for students future activities in politics, business, social life,
education, psychology and others. The participation in such a
debate has an enormous effect on forming of its participants
self-consciousness and personal potential. At the same time,
it catalyzes the increase of students interest to studying other
countries culture and language.
