ANALYSIS OF WESTERN EUROPEAN LANDSCAPE PAINTING DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to investigate the main
stages of landscape formation as a genre in Western European
painting. The paper examines the origin and development
of landscape painting, schools and trends in which this genre
improved and perfected itself as well as the works of great
artists. The paper describes how the outlook of the humanity
changes the notion of art, how art, once being handicraft,
became the esthetic delight, and how landscape evolved from
the element of ornamental composition into independent subject.
