P.I. Kovalevsky about Russian national education

Abstract

The article examines a less known pedagogical
work by P. I. Kovalevsky which is relevant and important
for finding answers to the contemporary problems of spiritual
and moral education. In his book Nationalism and National
Education in Russia the author defines the concept of national
education as a set of several characteristics, such as:
real education, strict management of distinctive features and
qualities of our nation, imbuing a person with such emotional,
spiritual and physical qualities that are inherent and peculiar
to a particular nationality. P. I. Kovalevsky lays special
emphasis on the role of Russian Orthodox Christianity in the
system of national education - that of being a unifying force
for the whole Russian nation. The article also emphasizes a
great role for a teacher in patriotic education
